The danish success story behind epiladerm…

Kim Wium-Andersen, founder of epiladerm international.

As the founder of epiladerm international, I have made my own body awareness the benchmark for my business.

I started out as a chemical product manager in Germany and the USA; It was only relatively late – in my late thirties – that I switched to the entrepreneurial camp.

From the very beginning, my goal was to take waxing and sugaring to a new level in professional cosmetics for gentle and permanent hair removal.

The first inspirations for this came from my youth, where I found a role model in my German godfather, who back then was ahead of his time in matters of personal hygiene and skincare for men.

It all started back in 2003

Since 2003 my mission has been to bring beauticians and their clients together in certified-epiladerm-studios. And thus guarantee the sought-after quality of permanent skin-friendly hair removal for women, men and teenagers.

At this point, we also have to talk about the WOW-effect induced by our METHOD. After the epiladerm treatment, customers often talk about the epiladerm “magic”. It unfolds when the customer experiences the sensation of velvety soft, hair-free skin after the epilation. And leaving the studio with a smile on their face.

The first product…

My first professional cosmetic product at that time was the proteolytic enzyme “Epilar” for enzymatic hair reduction, also developed in Denmark.

This later resulted (after 400 laboratory tests) in the epiladerm hair removal system including professional sugaring products.

The Epilar enzymes were a sensation at the time, but required the use of waxing. For that reason a high level of suffering during the depilation was still part of the treatment. I experienced this first-hand before we started with sugaring. The film sequence below describes this painful experience (when hot strip waxing meets its limits):

The conclusion

After this painful self-experiment, it quickly became clear to me: we have to invent epiladerm-sugaring so that no one is exposed to such stress during depilation/epilation anymore and beauticians can do without hearing protection in the future too.

In 2007, the first white-transparent epiladerm sugar pastes were launched on the market. They are still a success story to this day.

Since then, my sugaring method has been comparable to a wellness depilation: it is stress-free and associated with relaxation and joy.
